Timing belt change problems! Spending today changing out my water pump and timing belt on my Saturn Vue V6 L81 v6 engine. So, I went ahead and lined everything up, bolted down the four cams, took some quick video of the setup to make sure I put everything back reasonably effectively. Anyway, As I removed the belt I noticed something. The 2 cam specifically appears to be one tooth off advanced one tooth too far clockwise.
I've double and triple checked my belt and markings I made, the cam hasn't moved it's locked down tighter than alcatrazI just didn't notice the 2 cam was off by a tooth because there were some hoses in the way of the marking notch on the back. I guess I assumed it was perfect since everything else was - I marked the belt at the notch on the cam but didn't double-check the backing plate.
Looking at it again just to ENSURE the cam hasn't moved since the belt is absolutely taught between the cams with the 1 cam in exactly the right position, my marker-marks are exactly where they were, and there are exactly the same amount of belt-teeth between white notches on the cams. I have no idea how long this cam has been "skipped forward" a notch, but it is not something I did during my repair.
